My story

The official Macmillan Swim It challenge is to swim 21 miles (33.8km) during June and July – the equivalent of swimming the English Channel.

I've decided to challenge myself to go much further.

My goal is to swim 100km before the end of July – almost three times the official challenge distance.

I'm not a competitive swimmer, an athlete, or someone who has ever attempted anything like this before. I'm simply someone who enjoys swimming and wants to do something meaningful for a cause that has become deeply personal.

My brother is currently undergoing cancer treatment. Like many families affected by cancer, we've experienced the worry, uncertainty and emotional challenges that come with supporting a loved one through their treatment journey.

Watching someone you care about face cancer changes your perspective. It reminds you not to take your health, your time, or the people around you for granted.

That's why I've chosen to take on this challenge.

Every kilometre I swim is for my brother, for everyone currently facing cancer, and for the families and friends supporting them.

Over the next two months I'll be sharing my progress, swim statistics, milestones, healthy eating efforts, lessons learned, and occasional updates from Werner as I work towards completing 100km.

Macmillan provides invaluable support to people living with cancer and their families when they need it most. Every donation, no matter the size, will help Macmillan continue providing that support.
